To ensure that your car doesn`t give you a headache, remember a few tips regarding proper maintenance of ignition cables:

   DON`T EVER touch the cables while the engine is working to avoid the risk of electric shock. Always disconnect the cables after the engine has cooled off to avoid damaging the terminals.

Do not pull by the cable!!!

   Pay special attention to the assembling of cables at the ignition aparatus and spark coil. Remember that airtight (hermetic) connection of the cables is extremely important, as even the smallest amounts of air left inside the rubber terminals can cause overheating, which in turn makes the terminals `pop up like champagne corks`, and, consequently, the flow of electricity is broken.

   After replacement or cleaning of spark plugs, ensure proper re-connection of the cables. Every metal ending should recognizably click into its correct position.

   Loose connections cause the `arc effect` (extremely powerful flow of electricity through the air between two points). In such instances a resulting spark will burn its way through the coating of the insulator. However, it must be remembered that certain phenomena such as the shining or sparking of cables in darkness do not necessarily result from faulty insulation. The very structure of the cable causes the air around it to get ionized, which is accompanied by external electric microexplosions. These, however, will not give you an electric shock.

   DO NOT replace single cables. Always replace the whole set unless in emergency. According to statistics published in Western Europe, the most frequent cause of a break down is failure of high-voltage ignition cables.

   Replace ignition cables every 50 thousand kilometres or every 3 years, whichever comes first.
